SCAD Museum's Backyard

SCAD Museum's Backyard is a concept the breaks the boundaries of formal creating and learning. This is a space for students and visitors of the SCAD Museum to come and enjoy the outdoors. The area is divided into three zones:

PLAY: Here an organic sculpture contrasts the museum's modern clean lines and serves as a place for kids to climb and explore. The ground plane changes in elevation and color creating a fun visual and play space. A slide also connects the museum to the play area breaking the boundary of formal to informal space.

CREATE: The Create zone acts as a place for people to come think and relax. Concrete forms create shaded areas and seating where students can find peace, quiet, and inspiration in an outdoor area.

LEARN: Outdoors lecture halls are incorporated into the SCAD Museum Backyard. These areas are shaded and set back from the play area to allow for a quiet space where students can learn.
