Design Trends 2020

Here we are, for the third time! we are glad to share on Behance our predictions about design trends for the coming year. We apologize for the long wait, 2020 has been quite a difficult year to manage!

So, without further delay, let's start by exploring our beautiful and fresh design trends guide for 2020.

1.1 The dark mode of the UI
The designers have to be aware that could be the case they are requested to create a double design system to provide users with the possibility to switch from the normal mode to the dark one, as already is for the native operating systems.
1.2 No accessibility? No party!
Accessibility is boring for designers but very appealing for a large part of the users. Designers are called to create a design system where a simple and clear message is the most valued kind of "beauty". In order to do so, designers have to include components to be used by users affected by visual, auditory or physical disabilities.
1.3 Nice to see but functional first
As functional as nice, this is the designers mantra! They no longer need to choose between design and functionality, as today the can rely on technologies that make both of them work at the same time and on the same stage.
1.4 What's new with the UX?
Let me introduce the UX writing. This role requires the ability to craft the text that appear throughout the interface of digital products. Although it is commonly referred to as copy, UX writing differs from traditional copywriting since it aims to guide the user through the interface. UI designer is its partner in crime.
2.1 Customize, please!
Customization is a must. Each and every project worthing a mention, cannot do it without a customized font. Design rhythm is hectic and designers need to keep up with incoming trends, then customization will be seen more and more frequently where design is.
2.2 Big Bold
Big bold types replaces the images and become the main element. Fonts can be customized or not, but they still make the difference, either for printed or digital design.
2.3 Kinetic Type
Animations contaminations! Typography has been affected as well, and the font keeps moving and floating and scratching on the screen. The result keeps the viewers' eyes glued to the final effect.
3.1 Illustrations in Packaging
Stories are effectively told when illustrations are part of them. A package is a way to introduce the concept and the product to the customers, and illustrated is better!  Flat illustrations are still on trend, but today they are created with new fresh and brightening colors.
3.2 Patterns illustrated in packaging
Packaging is something we are all used to, what's new then? Customization and artistic collaboration make the difference and help the products bright on the shelves. Whether white and black or color, geometric, floral, romantic or monotype patterns, this is the right solution for the packaging of any kind of product.
4.1 Bicolor
The bicolor technique is key for a simple, clear and effective communication, where creatives use bold types and essential images for a high contrast final result.
4.2 The return of Minimalism
An old habit made just of essentials, basic color palette and simple shapes to create a unique identity. Everything is based on the contrast between white and negative space and geometry.
4.3 More Space to Space
Bring the blank to its most so to give the maximum wow effect to the product we want to show. A bold typography makes the pair.
5.1 3D is the key word
Motion without 3D is nothing! 3D is where the design is: there is no commercial, movie, game, poster, advertising, campaign that could now do without it. The details are so impressively featured and the result so attractive that this trend is today a totally must have.
5.2 2D and 3D work together
We are not reinventing the wheel! For the second year in a row, we are still busy with this trend indeed, but we have to mention it nonetheless. 2D with 3D are mixed so to give a brand new result, through the combination of specific tools (like Cinema 4D, After Effects).
5.3 Animate everything
Since animations are the 2020 essential, creatives are called to incorporate and decline them in any language and design. They are more and more used to make brands and logos appealing and fresh.
That's all!
