mint & the moon branding

this past spring, my boyfriend and i became intrigued by the idea of starting our own soy candle line. i immediately started working on branding it, and after us both thinking a bit, we landed on the name mint & the moon. along with this, i created a brand statement:

“we wanted a way to capture those tiny pieces of your life. those nostaglic places of magic. the feeling of playing in your backyard under the summer sun. the way the air smells after an afternoon storm. the autumn sunset shared with friends; the deep pink sun setting into a sky full of stars.
we create scents based on these magic moments. these always fading, perfect fragments of this world. of the earth and the sky. the mint and the moon.
so that maybe we can hold onto them for just a little bit longer.”

from this, i began working on the branding design. i knew we wanted something clean that let the scents speak for themselves. something that would let the scents speak for themselves. i began creating a simple moon graphic, by overlaying two circles, and decided the color would change depending on the scent. it was a cool way to create a palette that could change and evolve over time. i kept the text simple and clean, using a combination of gotham light and gotham black. the choice of the containers which would house the candles themselves was also important to us. we wanted something that could belong in anyone’s home, with anyone’s decor, but still be a beautiful piece. i chose amber and clear tumblers that are understated but still speak to the brand.
