While researching for this project I wanted to focus on issues that a simple action could make a huge impact if everyone acted upon it. In my first illustration, I conveyed the clothespin as open with the water drop falling. I decided to close the clothespin in order to better communicate saving water by hang drying your clothes rather than contradicting the text. I wanted the clothespin to have a 3D effect and executed it by adding various tones to each side of the clothespin as well as the found texture. The drop of water contains an abstract representation of the earth stating that water conservation is a universal problem that needs to be confronted. Lastly, I decided to keep the background white because ink uses a lot of water, therefore, this would work against my concept and overall message.
