Solidified Through Jazz
As the home of the jazz for Concord, California, the annual Concord Jazz Festival marked its fiftieth anniversary as of 2019. Three posters were created to celebrate the event, which were inspired by Esperanza Spalding, one of the featured jazz musicians known for her precocious musicianship and her iconic contrabass playing. The triptych respectively represents the bass instrument as the stronghold of jazz music with its grounding beats, yet aligned with the overarching free-flowing nature of the genre. Such are expressed with rough illustration styles and a range of colour versatility, through which each poster portrays different personalities of jazz appreciators. The poster with her lively expression was selected to be further elaborated into merchandise goods that Spalding fans or the event supporters in their ages 20 to 40s may be reminded of the solidified community spirit through the language of jazz.
