Portraits of the Intangible by Manuela Jimenez investigates the possibilities of how personable loss can be materialized through art jewelry and object making. Beginning from the origins of mourning expressions in global communities, loss has been honored by objects throughout history of mankind.
Loss, which is tied to memory, is shaped by time. As soon as an event becomes part of the past, time modifies it altering the way we remember.
It is by personal experience, cultural background, contemporary art references and readings, that the artist takes inspiration to address this subject explaining the meaning behind each artwork developed during her graduate degree project.
