Gearbox
Design of Machine Elements Final Project
The gearbox was a group-based final project developed for Design of Machine Elements. All parts were designed in SolidWorks, FEA analysis was performed on all parts and assemblies, while all fatigue data was calculated in Excel.
Fatigue Data
Before modeling, each part of the gear box was analyzed using deformation and factor of safety (FOS) calculations to determine its necessary geometry. Torque outputs were given, and were plugged into formulas through Excel to determine the size and shape of all parts under load.
Final Renders
Below are some of the final renders of our design. Two gears and two shafts are visible, the smaller known as the pinion and pinion shaft, and the larger known as simply the gear and gear shaft, respectively. Bearings are visible to accommodate the shafts and interface with the gearbox housing.
Drawings
Below are some of the engineering drawings that were produced to document each part, as well as the overall assembly.
