SHAME ON YOU.
A thesis exhibition by Kaitlyn Burch
BFA Printmaking, SUNY New Paltz
Often the language we use when discussing sex has negative connotations. This can create unhealthy associations with sexuality, the body, and pleasure. The underlying message of our words being “sex is wrong” causes shame. Shame is a suffocating feeling caused when a part of one’s identity is perceived as wrong. This work addresses a multitude of themes surrounding sexual shame. I am investigating the times I have experienced or caused shame while analyzing where it comes from, what provokes it, and what it takes to overcome.
