ALL NIGHT
This zine was based on experimentation and process with various mediums. I chose to use red wine because of its rich symbolism. It possesses the connotation of sacrifice, which I connected to women’s ongoing struggle against an oppressive patriarchal system. I paired my medium-driven concept with verbiage from Beyoncé’s Lemonade Film. After fighting with emotional turmoil, Lemonade’s last spoken poetry is about forgiveness and growth. The narrative ends on a positive note, but almost every other scene and song are full of heartache and strife. Historically, women often sacrifice their needs to accommodate men and this zine is meant to communicate this historical and contemporary struggle.
