Tegelarv Landskrona
Repurposing antique reliefs on the streets of the city
Landskrona is a 600 year old town located on the western coast of Skåne, Sweden. Originally built as a fortress to be used in the wars against the Danes across the strait, it was strategically placed and named to reflect this very purpose. Landskrona, translating to "the crown of the country" was intended to be the capital of Sweden.
The tiles are manufactured by hand in Spain, with the help of a public grant from the cultural department of the city of Landskrona.
The original tiles were made at Skrombergaverken in Ekeby, Skåne around the 1800's. Given the wear and tear of the natural elements and pedestrian use, they are slowly disappearing from the streets and collective memory altogether. The purpose of Tegelarv Landskrona is to cherish this cultural legacy and create something new, usable today.
