Lines & Colours II

In this second part of Lines and Colours I'll show another four illustrations that I have made for a personal purpose, not for any client or class project. Some of them are digitally painted and others are just scanned illustrations that were painted by hand. As it was the last time, the illustrations will appear in the order in which they are mentioned

Space Snail: In this illustration I took direct inspiration from the works of Jean Giarud, better known as Moebius. The strong black line and colour gradients were some of the most eye-catching characteristics of his comic illustrations, so I tried his method of drawing and colouring in my own creation.

Forest reckoning: For this illustration I thought of a 3 stage division inside the picture. So if you look at it from left to right, you'll first see a forest at night in which is raining, then you will start to see the strange fog, and at the end you'll see the UFO doing an abduction to something unknown to the viewer. Using this kind of composition I tried to create a feeling of uneasiness and curiosity when you show the picture by parts.

The Hannya demon: The Hannya is a mask used in Japanese theatre acts, there it represents the souls of women who have become demons due to obsession or jealousy. I've been always fascinated by how the Japanese masks look, the colours, the two sharp bull-like horns, metallic eyes, and a leering mouth are some of the most nightmarish things I could ever think of. So I decided to give a tribute to them in an illustration of my own.

Marrah's search: This illustration was drew and coloured by hand in its entirely. Then I decided to scan It and store it digitally in chase something happened to the original. Behind this illustration lies a deep self-reflect on how people go to the other side of the world searching for what they think they need when sometimes, the thing they really need is in front of their noses.
