Logos and Branding

This is some logo work I did for photographer Amber Zbitnoff.  She was looking for a logo that could be used for both promotional material and as a watermark on photos.  The requirements were a simple yet distinct design that didn't distract from the photos along with a request of something more script based with a heart worked in.  Amber's work is grounded in classic and elegant traditions with a freshness and sense of fun that is irresistible.  To capture that feeling I used a cursive "A" and "Z" that works perfectly into a heart.

Program used was Illustrator.

As I make different animated and video projects I wanted to have an identity that popped up before hand to help brand my work.  The name for Pie in Sky came from all the big ideas I come up with and how even after they get finished and become real, I still can't quite believe that they're right there in front of me.  It's such a great feeling I think we all feel from time to time with our own "pie in the sky" ideas.  More to the point though, my name is Sky and I like Pie.

For the animated identity, I wanted to invoke a feeling of handmade crafts and nostalgia.  I framed the logo in a shoebox diorama with a flash light type spot for the lighting.  The logo itself is textured with cardboard and paper to give it more of a DIY look.  Attached to the logo elements are craft dowels and the animation is like that of a puppet show being put on for family and friends.  As this goes before my other works, I wanted the viewer to be introduced to the feelings of whimsy and charm I strive to achieve in my work.

Programs used were Maya, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
This was a fun challenge I did with some designer friends.  We all took a different old candy and tried to revamp the look to be more competitive while maintaining the established brand.

With the candy Necco Wafers, I wanted to highlight the cylindrical nature of the packaging that these tasty little disks come in as not many candies are packaged like this.  Making the logo vertical would draw attention to this and make for more interesting displays as they could now be set up vertically as an impulse item.

The tag "an American Classic" is kept the same to ground the brand as well as the more hand done lettering in "Necco" but colors are updated and brand specific packaging is added.  The "C's" in "Necco" are also changed to represent wafers that have bites taken out of them.

Program used was Illustrator.
This logo was created for the band "Edward Paul Trio".  Their musical style is a mixture of rock and jazz with an emphasis on live performances in night clubs and bars.  The logo itself had to be in a variety of promo ranging from business cards to drum heads.  Taking all of this into account, I designed a simple clean logo that draws its style from the "mad men" days of the early 60's.  A stylized martini and olive, angular type face, and the optional Pan Am shade of blue harkens back to smokey lounges and cool night clubs.  Crisp line work means it can go on any promo and look good.

Programs used were Illustrator and Photoshop.
I was asked to do some non-profit work for a group calling themselves Pet Angels and Friends.  They spend their time raising money for much needed supplies and food for rescue, foster, and forever home pets.  On top of that, they make some really cool suitcase beds for dogs and cats that need a cozy little space all their own.  Being a lover of all feathered and furry friends, this was a rewarding and fun experience.  I had a really great time and I'm glad my talents could be used for such a great cause.

The posters we made were to go up in a number of pet related businesses and shelters.  I designed both the logo and the poster itself to be cute and approachable in this setting, drawing my inspiration form the Little Golden Book series.  Clean simple shapes and design coupled with a straight-forward layout and copy makes this great cause accessible to all who happen to see it.
