BBC WEBSITE | Fictitious Project Solution

BBC, as one of the biggest public service broadcasters in the United Kingdom, has a big and diversified audience.
However, the company felt that there was more to do for a specific target audience, concerning the way their website
homepage looked like. This was: the millennials. This public, as young teenagers, use Internet every day and for everything.
Therefore, when creating something for them it must be something bold, different and interactive. Something that this public
can relate with, but at the same time that can keep their attention and provide a new and innovative experience.

The main concept behind this project is the message “Every One Matters”.
Mainly because this target audience tends to feel that they do not belong in nowadays society or are used to feel pressure to fit in.
Due to that, by having this message as a basis for the project, the idea was to make those young teenagers feel that there
is a place where they are accepted as they are, a place to embrace the differences and to celebrate variety and diversity.

After defining the key points for the “re-branding” of the BBC homepage, it was time to develop each stage of the project.

WEBSITE HOMEPAGE

The first idea was to create a new visual identity for each section of the homepage: News, Sports, Weather, Children’s, iPlayer, Sounds and Education. This way, by taking advantage of seven different colors and shapes, seven different sections were also created.
The main goal with this approach is to lead the public to associate the colors and shapes to the section name and give an innovative look to the website, breaking away from what is conventional. Simultaneously, the core message  is present because each section stands out and the horizontal menu layout makes the website easier and more interesting to interact with in every device.
Advertising Printing Campaign

An advertising oriented for the magazines/newspapers. Here, the intention was to work with the same seven colors, but introduce
the main message of the project. Therefore, seven different versions of the same image were created, where it is possible to see three different and nearly random objects: a chair, a flower/fruit and a Lego brick. The idea was to show that every and any object or thing
has its own purpose, no matter the color or aspect because, as it is said in the images, “Every One Matters”.
The purpose was to create curiosity and interest, to make the public visit the website.

VIDEO

Finally, the last deliverable was free to choose. Due to that and after doing some research, the best option seemed to be a video.
This would be a video to be present in every social media platform, that is used every day by the project target audience.
The idea was to create a quick, fun and powerful video that could sum up all the main concepts behind the elaboration of the project.
Something that could engage even the “laziest” teenager and “catchy” enough to make the public want to find out more about the new BBC website.
