The Art of Decay - This is Athens

THE ART OF DECAY
University of West Attica
Department of Graphic Design and Visual Communication

This project was done in the framework of “One City, Never-Ending Stories”, a campaign highlighting the city of Athens as a modern, year-round destination, that has been launched by the Athens Tourism Partnership and featured on the official City of Athens website www.thisisathens.org. Each student had to present a feature of the city that could potentially become an alternative tourist attraction.
The concept and goal of this project is to present an alternative perspective of decay, to discover and capture the beauty within the seemingly ugly and then frame it.

Urban and architectural decay often appeals to the imagination. While some consider the unfinished or collapsing parts of the city as ugly or disturbing, others may feel that they make an area more interesting than the picture perfect urban fabric. This subject can also become a motive for further discussion on matters like the passing of time, human vanity, etc.

Several photos of fragmented and decayed city's walls were taken and some of them were selected for the project's booklet.

Three posters and one banner were designed
to promote the project.

Thank you for watching!
