Princeton Rugby Football Club - Keeping the Winning Tra

In 2020, Benjamin Spacapan anticipates receiving his MBA and JD from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, respectively. As an undergraduate, Benjamin Spacapan was a member of the Princeton University Rugby Football Club, with which he remains actively involved as a Princeton alumnus.

The Princeton University Rugby Football Club’s earliest history dates back to 1876 when Princeton became a founding member of the Intercollegiate Football Association. But the Princeton University Rugby Football Club, as it is known today, wasn’t founded until the spring of 1931. Since then, it has held a proud tradition of wins and successes. In recent years, it has played twice in the USA Rugby “Sweet 16” and became the winner of not only the Ivy League, but also the New Jersey State Championships on nine separate occasions. In 2017, Princeton recognized the club as the “Sport Club of the Year.”

The club encourages public support through the Princeton Rugby Endowment, which helps sustain the Princeton Rugby Program. The Endowment Board says emphatically in its mission statement that while joining an athletic team is good for up to four years in college, membership with the Princeton University Rugby Football Club is good for a lifetime.

Hence, the club’s long tradition of successes extends beyond the field through the camaraderie and partnership that spans generations of Princeton rugby players. This bond can be witnessed in the Senior Recognition Dinner, a yearly event that reflects the quality of a 50-year tradition at the Princeton University Rugby Football Club.
