Graduation Degree Project (J+M)
Selection of Headpieces inspired by underwater creatures.

For my Degree Project Down Where It’s Wetter, I chose underwater as my theme. Each of the five headpieces represents different underwater living creatures - a betta fish, a jellyfish, a coral, a stingray, and a crab. I love the ocean, and I go to different beaches every vacation I get. In 2012, I got my scuba license in Belize, where the world’s second largest coral reef and the great blue hole are located. Diving down to 140 feet underwater opened up a whole new world to me. It was a world full of mystery, magic, color, texture and details. I wanted to bring all of these unique qualities of the underwater creatures to the top and capture the beauty of the way they coexist so peacefully yet fiercely in the world called the ocean.

I don’t restrict myself to any musts or do's in my work. I first start with open possibilities. Sometimes the designs come from a certain inspiration, but sometimes they are materially driven. All of the five pieces in my degree project are very different from each other in material, color, and shape. My process is similar to scuba diving in that they both are challenging yet sensational. Exploring new possibilities, materials, and different techniques allowed me to bring my collection to a different level than my previous works.
