GRADUATION PROJECT
(Space Design)
The initial three years of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessory Design Programme at NIFT is focused on training the students to become professionals in Design and Development of products and fashion accessories, for both export and domestic markets. The next step to acquire further excellency in the field as a part of the education, was to have a complete understanding of how the industry as a whole functions in terms of infrastructure, organizational set up as well as the manufacturing procedures. Also, there was a need to study the various aspects of production & quality control and finally the marketing and costing in the context of design.
Thus, the Graduation Project was planned with the objective to provide an intensive experience and understanding of the industry. Also, small projects, if taken up to the end, would further increase our wisdom as designers and develop a mutual give and take relationship. This duration of eighteen weeks were planned in such a way that they would help inculcate the qualities to become an all-rounder, in the field chosen, helping to learn about the design field, but also an in-depth knowledge of manufacturing, how to develop personal relationship, the code of conduct required in such places and much more.
As a design studio, Siddhartha Das Productions Pvt. Ltd. offers a wide variety of in-house curatorial and design expertise. It blends national with international, rural with urban, and youth with experience.
In the first project undertaken, the challenge at the heart of this unique opportunity was in adapting and showcasing traditional art and craft forms of Odisha that can support and express the legacy to varied audiences at a level commensurate with the stature of being a gateway to the state. The design also, fosters the link between sustainable livelihoods, and a showcase of Odisha in the contemporary urban
milieu of Delhi.
The second project was an Art Installation at a renowned Ballroom of London. The dynamic installation took its inspiration from India’s rich visual storytelling traditions. It tells the story of India’s architecture, juxtaposing historical buildings with the modernist and contemporary ones. These narratives of tradition and modernity unfold across The Ballroom on cuboid shapes, on planes of mesh, fabric and paper. It merges
architectural forms with photographic, painted and graphic artworks.
