ITS- Vice Magazine

In 1994 Vice Magazine was created by Shawn Smith and Suroosh Alvi

Suroosh Alvi types out ‘VOICE’ on a desktop computer using a font called “Mystical.” This is the first logo for what will become VICE Media. His friend, a graffiti artist, tells him it sucks, comes by the office, and spray paints it on the street out front in an attempt to make it better. They digitize a photo of the logo on their computer. Eventually the ‘O’ disappears, a few more tweaks here and there, and around 1996 the shape solidifies to what VICE uses today. After that in the year 1999 Vices offices started up in New York where they still are to this day.

After researching Vice I wanted to have a look at previous covers to see what sort of photography was used and whether it would spark any ideas for me with this project.

We next had to get into groups of three, which one of them we'd have to shoot for our cover and make them not appear as themselves.
One of my ideas was to dress mine up as one of the Rolling Stones ( in the 1970s) as he has long hair and I got the props to achieve this, another idea is to possibly play with light and see if I can only get light on his hair and not his face so it would be difficult for the viewer to see whether it is a boy or a girl.

Researching Vice I discovered that 26% of its viewers are under 24 years, so I'm going to trying to appeal to my generation for the cover and inside spread.
