An assignment for my Design Principles class was to make a product out of recycled materials. The material cost for what I ended up using was $0 (excluding the lights themselves).
Original sketch model to get an idea for shape, held together by leather cord.
The plastic scraps are stuck to loose plastic with the adhesive on the back of the scraps.
Holes are hammered through the plastic with a push pin so the plastic can be sewn together with string.
Lights are woven through plastic scraps held straight by a yardstick and placed in a cardboard scrap base.
The lights are held up by a base and proped together by 2 yard stick pieces. A cover and a shade holder is then glued on.
A foam base is made to help the lap sit flat.
The shade is put over the woven lights.
Final product
