Juxtaposing opposites- Jacquard

The inspiration for the pattern in this jacquard is from mosaic windows, integrated with colors from the painted surfaces of the walls. It references the extravagant spaces of the haveli. My artwork was a painting inspired from photographs I had taken of my ancestral home. I have attempted to capture how light enhances the materiality of the surface.Some areas in the jacquard are tied down versus pocketed areas and floats in an attempt to create a tactile memory on its surface, reminiscent of the exuberant spaces in the haveli. The subtle changes in yarn colors across the piece indicate how light can transform the mood and atmosphere.
