University of Waterloo, Ontario
The Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada has begun construction on a new building due to be complete in March 2011. This project is an entry submitted by myself and my colleague and classmate, Andrew Wisniewski, to a competition calling for the design of two green roof spaces as well as the landscape surrounding the building. We focused the project around the idea of filtering water from the roof to a containment pond at the side of the building. Teaching space and cafe space was also included. Native plant species were selected to deal best with the Waterloo climate. The south side garden and its included bridged path and stormwater management pond received an honourable mention.
My contributions to this project were the design of the ground spaces, the selection of plants, and some of the featured graphics.
