The caterpillar chair exists as a steel frame with upholstery webbing, and can be used with two different hand-stitched canvas coverings, referencing the different molts a caterpillar undergoes in the process of becoming a butterfly. I was interested in creating a comfortable, playful object that could be rearranged and used in any way that best suited the person interacting with it.
The first cover, with felt-lined holes that highlight the playful colors of the chair similar to the bright colors of certain caterpillars during their transformation.
The second cover mimics the ridges of a caterpillar, the ridges filled with batting and loops with detachable clasps.
