Mono Lake is an irresistible study of contrasts and textures; an ever changing world of salt and light. Most people familiar with Mono Lake think of the tufa towers located on the south shore. These images were made at Black Point. An area that lies opposite on the north shore and is the lakebed terminus of a cinder massif that rises some 500 feet. There is an easy one mile trail to the summit that delights with breathtaking views of Mono Lake and the eastern Sierra ridges.

These images, taken from on and around the exposed lakebed, shows the impact of years of drought. A slow, steady decline of one of North America's oldest lakes.
