This low-resolution display was created with 11 36-pixeled LED tubes. It displays quotes from Google news sources, ranked in order of frequency of appearance in new stories following the 2004 presidential election, which incited high volumes of online discourse and new coverage. A statistical experiment in the public's reaction to the election, it shows quotes in descending order of use. The most used phrase - "We will fight for every vote" begins the stream which ends with the least used phrase - "a president has to make touch decisions and stand by them," among others.

 

The graphics were generated in Processing from the text feed provided by statistician Mark Hansen. A PC and driver interfaces with the tubes using the RS485 protocol.
