I am working in a typical Danish one-man studio where I do everything myself and follow my designs from idea to shop.

I have been working like this since 1983 and with most of the factories for 10-15 years, some even 28 years. I have mostly been designing furniture in the upper part of average price ranges compared to Danish standards – and my designs have in general had a lifetime of 10 – 28 years – or none!

Normally my clients contact me and ask me to design something especially for them – either because they have noticed a gap or need in the market, or because they have some free capacity at the factory.
I collect the needed background information, marketing information, needs and sizes etc. and make rough sketches from point zero – hundred maybe – and then choose the best 3-6 sketches and make them as presentation drawings and show them to the managers and salespeople to get a response from both production and sale.
Sometimes I make simple prototypes as well, to get a fair judgment of the idea before the more expensive prototyping starts.
Working drawings are made 1:5 and 1:1 by hand. I never work in CAD.
I often make brochure layouts and price list layouts as well. In that way, I have full control over the process from “idea to shop” – the way I like to work as a designer.
