In the context of plastic being invading the world quickly and painfully, minimizing plastic waste from the smallest items is a top priority for everyone living on the planet, including you and me.
You see lots of ads on Facebook or TV news about climate change crisis, due to the use of natural resources, or the use of energy from fossil fuels to operate and create one time use items. But when you look around, not many people actually act or they just discuss for a while and come back to life as usual. The reason is, because we have not yet take action to change from the smallest habits.
We need to change our perception from the smallest and simplest things. If you have practiced the habit of bringing a straw, then it will be a set of straws, then a handy cloth bag but also very fashionable to hold it, and then a personal water bottle and folding bags, ... imagine that more than 7 billion people on earth have such habits that will help reduce at least 7 billion disposable plastic items a day!
With the mission of being a designer, I have not been able to have outstanding researches or ideas to create products that protect the environment thoroughly, so I will try to do what I can do best, as this Bubble Tea Mock-up, though still plastic cups and plastic caps – which are hard to change for almost companies’ business strategies – but you and me have the right and ability to replace the plastic straws into Stainless steel straws. I hope that this image will gradually become more familiar, especially with young people, to become a habit for everyone, once more: from the smallest things.
