The Thumbprint GPS is a responsive look at the needs of a young blind traveler in an urban setting. After extensive research on both the navigation methods of independant blind people and on comprable products, the Thumbprint includes several innovative features: a navigation compass that spins and vibrates patterns to express direction rather than relying on distracting sound, a form that can be placed in the hand not carrying a walking cane while still allowing for partial use of the hand, and a braille read-out that allows for mid-trip adjustment and clarification of routes.
