Asked from The Lord (Fine Art Photography)

My fine art photography work has always been described as ethereal, delicate, feminine, or bright. I have been inspired by stories from the Holy Bible and expressions of the Christian faith. This is a subject matter that is personal to me.

The below image is a narrative piece that describes the story of Hannah and her child, Samuel (definition of Samuel means "asked from the Lord"). Hannah's story is one that relates close to my heart as she struggles with not having a child to hold and pleading with God to remember her, as he does in the end. In return for God's goodness, she returns Samuel to the Lord by giving him a life dedicated in ministry. The details of the background as a clay wall (much like the buildings in Ancient Israel) is shown, along with biblical fashion.

Artist statement:

After many years of pursuing a different career choice, I found myself yearning for something much more. I wanted a career that expressed my ability to be detail-oriented, while using my passion to serve others. I am able to do this through photography.

Photography, illustration, and storytelling are tools for me to spread positivity and love into the world, while maintaining the traditional values I hold dear. I enjoy replicating stories that are close to my heart, such as a fairytale that my mother read to me, a family story that has been passed down, or a story related to my Christian faith.

I love pastel colors and am fascinated by film photography and watercolor textures. This technique is displayed throughout my work and styling. Using materials, costumes, and props, my work differs from others. I love setting up a scene and deciding how it will look in my photographs.

Photography is an art form that I am able to use reach people that I could never reach socially. As an artist, I want viewers to feel pure joy and a touch of wonder—to look at the smaller things and know that I cared for those details as well. I want viewers to approach me and ask me where my joy comes from because my work serves a much greater purpose than myself.
