Forefoot shoe design

This small project was about creating a shoe which encouraged forefoot running when racing to give you maximum stride and propulsion efficiency. I deconstructed an old pair of Nike Pegasus 35 running shoes and looked for ways to minimise weight and push the angle of the shoe towards the toe. This led me to cutting away half of the upper as all that was needed was a solid heel cup and toe net for when you landed. The midsole was cut away at the back which left a large amount of the EVA foam on the forefoot. This would  create a pendulum like motion where all the weight would be on the forefoot and would direct the foot forward. I had looked at various ways to keep the foot secure in the shoe and found it was the heel cup which was most important. I kept that the same size and came up with a few variations to keep the foot locked down but found it was best with the original laces and flywire system. The foot was then held securely using the flywire hooks on the sides when lacing up. I decided this shoe would be great for 5km - 10 mile road races.
