Triage Trainer develops accurate decision making in the life saving skill of Triage.

The game is set at the scene of an explosion in a busy high street and the player's job is to prioritise the multiple casualties for treatment. Trainees must follow set protocols to make their decision and they are faced with highly realistic characters that react emotionally and physically to their injuries.

In controlled trials across the UK, when compared to a traditional learning method, the game was found to be statistically significantly better at developing accuracy in prioritising casualties and in supporting students to follow the correct protocol to make their decision.

The prototype game was developed with the support of Advanced Life Support Group, which advises NATO and the UK emergency services, as well as learning systems experts VEGA Group and the Universities of Birmingham and Coventry. It was part funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board.
