On the streets of Moscow, there are constantly processes that modify the urban space:
there are tags, graffiti and advertising. Are they local, do they have their own identity,
what tools can capture them and what information can they give us? These processes are of a daily nature, as a rule, citizens do not notice them, nevertheless, they have artistic
value, because they are chaotic and unstable visual products of human interaction with the city.
The idea of the project «Canvases» emerged intuitively, author tried to create an
environment that will provoke the processes of creating artworks or statements. The project is ambiguous and can be seen as a fixation and further museumification of everyday life, and a kind of manipulation of agent which involved in changing the graphic content of the city. In the authors’ view, an ideal environment for provocation was the white canvas (white square) - regardless of the existing graphic context, it is the starting point for subsequent processes of filling the urban surface with visual information.
