The mission of the project was to provide refugees resettled in the U.S.A. (non-english speakers) with language learning material.
More than 150 refugees from Eastern and Central Africa were resettled in America Mid-West in 2016. With no prior English knowledge, the refugees had a hard time understanding the stacks of official government documentation they needed to read, understand and fill out. The designers challenge was to create simple material translating Swahili words to English using simple visual aides (line illustration). The print materials designed can be provided to refugees by organizations such as I.I.S.M.O. to substitute the English learning materials they use during the first weeks of the resettlement program.
