Part 1: Site analysis
This project's primary goal was to address an area that was causing tension in the local community and required updating in order to remedy the 'fracture' it caused.

This is Arbury Community Centre and nursery. Built to it's current size in stages from the 1930's, it sits on a large community green nestled in a suburban residential area with nearby schools in Cambridge, UK. Despite being in an optimal location, the building itself is a patchwork of oddly connected additions who's design only faces the road in front, completely ignoring the green that it sits on. This creates an ominous and visually obscured dead space between the back of the Centre and the row of tree-lined terraced flats that sit at the back of the green. This space has become a corridor to walk through quickly without stopping rather than a place to pause and enjoy. This attitude extends to the entire green and therefore also affects the community Centre itself.
