Penguin Student Design Awards competition entry March 2019.
Designed for the coming-of-age novel by Haruki Murakami.
The front cover represents the overall emotion of grief, which permeates a story of loss and psychological decline, resulting in a suicide by hanging.
The back cover represents the snow-capped hills where a couple fell in love, and one life ends. A vision of the suffering beauty appears to her lover among the blossom of a cherry tree.
Colours from Japan complement the Japanese setting and author. The cool blue symbolises an overall sadness.
