The Garden: Reality & Metaphor
The brief was set to create a gardening magazine; through naming it and designing the masthead, front page and a 4-page spread of the 'feature article'. It was a quarterly magazine aimed at informing, enlightening, educating and entertaining an intelligent and open-minded audience interested in The Garden: Reality & Metaphor.

I named the magazine "OASIS" as the aesthetic of it in general is meant to be calming and classy with the target audience being people upwards of 30. The masthead was based off a font with some alterations made to it such as the kerning and the letter 'i' being changed into a lowercase and a curve connecting the ball to the stem of the letter.
I based my Spring Issue on the 'Japanese garden', with the feature article focusing on Japanese Rock gardens. The images were sourced from the internet and were of the Ryōan-ji Temple rock garden in Japan. I used a 3x3 grid for the spreads to have the images cover more than just one page when portrait and to enable the landscape images to have significant room on the page to properly focus on the images.
Each issue has a colour delegated to it every year with the type colour on the inside taken from the images used in the articles.
