Uxolo cement side table
The Brief:
For this project I was required to design and manufacture a product using cement and another accent material of my choice.
Concept:
My cement table is called Uxolo, which is a Xhosa word that has many translations, my favourite being peace, harmony & tranquility.

The table is made of 3 identical overlapping sections each one supporting the next, that are sewn together using a single piece of rope.
Construction methods:
Portland cement mixed with alkali resistant glass fibres was poured into a two part silicone mould which produced one section.
For the legs, I cut out 140 round disks from 18mm birch ply which I then laminated together. I then tapered each leg using a home made router jig.
Thank you for checking out my project
