RISD Class of 2019 Yearbook
Always in life but especially in school, we learn the things that let us work best. There’s a whole program of supports, conditions, foods, and circumstances that allow us to be creative. There are the tools taught and given to us by our departments — the tools of the trade.
And then there’s everything else that’s essential to getting work done: friends, clubs, obsessions, and activities. All these things are essential to a rich and fruitful creative life. So, with all that in mind...What’s in your toolkit?
Introduction to the 2019 Toolkit theme written by Eliza Chen.
The theme for the RISD 2019 Yearbook is Toolkit. We asked each student to design their own name and page with a set of alphabet stencils, and answer the question “What’s in your toolkit?”
Students were given stencils to use to design their own name.
Each graduating student's name is included in the cover of the book.
Illustrations were made solely using the four stenciled alphabets.
Each student was invited to use any combination of letters or forms from the four set of stencil alphabets to design their own name. The stencils created over 400 unique names in the book.
A RISD Design Guild Project.
