A classroom assignment done to understand the working of different machines. We chose a manual sewing machine. Our final outcome was to create a replica of the mechanisms involved in a manual sewing machine in a simplified manner.
To understand the different parts of the machine we opened up an old manual sewing machine and also looked at references. We studied different mechanisms that are involved in the process like, crank-rocker mechanism, barrel-cam mechanism, cam mechanism, swivel mechanism and slider-crank mechanism. We used cardboard and MDF to make mockups for the same. Our final prototype was made using PVC pipes, acrylic and wood.
