CHOC Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Units
Operations manager Christopher Throgmorton supports numerous charities dedicated to improving the lives of young people. Christopher (Chris) Throgmorton is a longtime supporter of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). The CHOC healthcare system operates three Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in California. All of these facilities are rated Level 4 (offering the most comprehensive care) by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

While any baby born prematurely or with complications enters a NICU for specialized treatment and care, varying levels specify the amount of care a NICU can provide. Level 4 units have specialists and pediatric surgeons onsite and are equipped to handle the most complex cases.

For example, newborns in need of major surgery because of congenital heart defects may be cared for in a Level 4 NICU. Likewise, babies relying on ventilators or other advanced procedures are likely to be transferred to a Level 4 NICU.
