The three illustrations in this project, The Seed & the Sun, The Weeping Nothingness, and The Infinite Comet, are snapshots of a larger story and journey through space by the main character, the Seed. On their journey to find the Sun, the Seed encounters various characters who live among the stars and each have their own role. I approached these pieces as visual development for a larger theoretical project, using them as a way to find a fitting aesthetic style for the story. 

These pieces were produced for an illustration class. One of my goals in this project was to explore the merging of mythological Chinese imagery with a more science-fiction inspired outer space. I also prioritized a shape-based style to maintain a sense of playfulness. To do so, I refrained from rendering and smooth gradients and relied on color blocking and textured digital brushes. In order to keep the different illustrations distinct but cohesive, I experimented with the depictions of nebulous environments, working with different color palettes, textures, and shapes to give each piece its own flavor.
