Clarendon Posters

At the beginning of the semester, our professor assigned each student in my Typography II class a typeface to research and explore - mine was Clarendon, a slab-serif designed by Robert Besley in 1845. We were then asked to create a distinctive typemark merging two letterforms from the typeface.
When asked to create the typemark three-dimensionally, I first thought of Clarendon as one of the first typefaces used for educational primers. Therefore, I wanted to create a fun, interactive object that captured the solidity and elegance of the typemark. I used a laser cutter to shape the forms out of birch plywood and shaped out indents so that the letters can be removed easily from the frame.
The final iteration of the assignment was a series of three 16 x 16" posters that work together as a spread and individually.
