Feature Article: Marian Bantjes
The design was inspired by Bantjes process - combining hand generated imagery and digital manipulation. There is a contrast between the mechanical and the organic. The flowing and organic imagery contrasts with the modern grid structure, layout and typography. Bright bold colours reflect the use of colour in Marian’s work and creates excitement and impact on the page. The design has a wow factor achieved through bold colour and imagery, while the paper insert creates a smile in the mind, making the article more memorable for the reader.

Typographic Article: Robert Bringhurst
The design conveys the importance of legibility and structure, aiming to make the article a pleasure to read. The typography of the heading was inspired by the quote from the article, “the letters are alive. They dance in their seats. Sometimes they rise and dance in the margins and aisles”. The headings create interest and give the page energy. It was important that the type would draw attention to itself but still remain legible. The layout of the introduction leads the reader into the article. The paper fold out is a creative way to add more space on the page and adds a sense of touch to create a rich user experience.
