Wooden Pulley
RISD Freshman Spatial Dynamics Studio

The prompt was to move a 1" steel ball from point A to point B without touching it with our hands. The distance had to be regular every time, meaning students could not just randomly fling the ball. We were allowed to use just wooden dowels, and cotton strings.
The challenge of this project was to create a solid structure. Since we had to use just strings and thin wooden dowels, the structure would be very wobbly and moved around unless it was completely fixed. Also each wooden dowel selling at the school store would bend or break differently, since they were made out of natural materials.
I managed to create a firm structure with two parallel curved wooden dowels. Then I made pulley with a handle and a triangular platform to lift the steel ball.
