The challenge for this project was to design the packaging for a "new" alcoholic beverage, using the theme of Astronomy.
I wanted the overall vibe of the design to be dark and to resemble a mysterious elixir. The inspiration behind the design of the "Black Horizon" wordmark stemmed from the designs and fonts used on the covers of vintage sci-fi novels. Looking at the covers of those books really helped me when it came to designing a wordmark to fit into the theme of Astronomy, and also to make it look like a mysterious elixir.
I opted for holographic foil for the wordmark and the logo on the bottle caps because the way that the foil shines and the colours that it reflects remind me of the shimmering nebulae found throughout the universe. The bottle and label, except for the wordmark and logo, is entirely matte black and white. This was done to really let the colours and the shine of the foil to stand out.
