Forestry Multi-Tool XMT4

This project was realized during my first year at university.

Based on a fictitious contract with Fiskars, the brief was to develop a large multi-tool with 3 to 5 tools for a variety of uses that fits with other products offered by Fiskars.

XMT4 Extract Multi-tool 4 functions
Saw. Machete. Sharpener. Bottle opener
Forestry Tool
Taking care of the forest is a way to preserve the natural heritage, to leave a healthy territory to future generations.

13% of the world's forest lands are private. The majority of landowners carry out forest maintenance tasks themselves.
These jobs are demanding and need performing tools.  Trough the design process many blades profiles were tested to see which one performed the best.  The final combination is somewhere between a billhook and a traditional machete.
Accordingly to Fiskars essence, orange indicates action: mechanism and grip. The form was carefully thought to accommodate an ergonomic two hands grip through different manipulations.

Molded gear profile in the shaft and the buttons lock the blades at the desired angle providing a safe and efficient way of working.  The locking mechanism is constituted of spring enclosed in a stainless steel cylinder.
Clear the path.
Forest often implied dense vegetation and hazardous ground. The machete is there to help access the terrain and perform small to medium cutting tasks.
Pruning is caring.
Cutting bad branches and sick trees helps the forest to grow in a healthy way.
Stay sharp.
A big duty day in the wood often means sharpening on the field. It is always easier to sharpen your tool frequently to keep a good cutting edge than waiting it is too late.
No good multi-tool is complete without a bottle opener.  Therefore, the XMT4 includes a notch to open your favorite beverage at the end of a big day cleaning the wood or your backyard.
Hope you enjoyed !
