Logo Design for Ombudsman
Republik Indonesia
In early 2017, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia held a design competition for their new logo.
According to the brief, the submitted logo must convey the following traits:
1. able to raise the brand awareness of the institution among the Indonesian public
2. show the Ombudsman as an institution that is authoritative, effective, and just
3. looks masculine, mature, modern, prestigious, and simple.
I came up the following logo design:
Translation:
Upper top: This logo design for Ombudsman consists of three open hands that forms a circle. The logogram represents:
Upper bottom: Open hands symbolise the openness of Ombudsman RI as a supervisor of public institutions in receiving suggestions and reports from the Indonesian public as well as symbolising the eagerness of Ombudsman RI in reaching all parts of the country.
Lower top: The circle formed by the three hands symbolises the integrity, authority, and universality of Ombudsman RI in undertaking its tasks. The circle and its diametres acts as the base of the open hands logo. The circle could also be interpreted as representing the initial of the Ombudsman (O).
Lower bottom: The simplicity reflected by this logogram represents the effectivity of Ombudsman as an institution as well as giving it a modern look.
Translation:
Red symbolises the spirit and hard work of the Ombudsman in supervising public institutions as well as service to the homeland, Indonesia.
Gold symbolises optimism towards the success of cooperation between the Ombudsman, public institutions, and the society.
Brown symbolises Ombudsman as a state institution that is down to earth and is close to the people, as well as the idealism of Ombudsman as a supervisor of public institutions.
Black in the logotype symbolises the firmness and authority of Ombudsman as a higher state institution.
