Teichmann Structures - A Bridge in 4 Nights

Teichmann Structures
- A Bridge in a Four Nights -
Teichmann Structures recently erected a free spanning steel bridge over the N1 freeway in four nights, without even disrupting traffic much.  The supports were erected and tested one weekend, then pre-fabricated spans were lifted into place and secured the next.  Load testing, inspections by the authorities, SANRAL and so on took another few weeks, but they essentially built a bridge over a freeway in four nights!
Behind the Scenes

We - Dalton and Michelle - spent two weekends in the field with Waldemar and the guys from Teichmann Structures doing time-lapse photos, videos and these stunning shots above. Construction took place mainly at night, to avoid disrupting traffic.  We practically lived on construction strength tea and coffee.
The first weekend, when they put the supports in place, was wet and windy - we even had to use the umbrellas from our lights to keep our equipment dry!  The second weekend they hoisted all the sections into place and finished off the bridge.
