Thom Goodwin's profile

: Pocket Park 2019.

This was a collaborative competition project involving myself and a number of other members from my final undergraduate year studio group. The project called for the re-establishment of a park space in the south of the City of Lincoln. The site was originally a park but, due to anti-social behaviour, was gated off and lies unused.
The main purpose of the park is to re-integrate the community into the space and establish a feeling of local pride. The site sits in the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln, a heavily residential area, and its context includes a school, children center and the local Football Stadium.
The plant life chosen is native to Lincolnshire in order to connect the park to its naturally occurring context. Also, these plants will aid in the promotion of a healthy and sustainable ecosystem for local native animals and wildlife.
The selection of materials has an emphasis on sustainability, texture, aesthetics and affordability. As well as this, function and the use of the space played a role in the selection of materials. These solutions allow for a sustainable park which required minimal maintenance and upkeep.
