All of us have some critical points in our lives and when faced with a difficult situation, we are given two choices. We either choose to fight with it or try to find an escape; but these choices aren’t given to immigrants, it’s either life or death with them. They don’t choose to leave the lands that they’ve spent their entire lives on, they are forced to migrate when their country is collapsing in order to survive. Furthermore the difficult part doesn’t just end with crossing the country’s borders. This migration is not just a plane ticket away, in order to survive the Syrian’s really are faced with some serious difficulties. They try to escape their countries with the boats that are only meant to carry 20 people but since their escape from their country is an urgent subject, the migrants try to fit 100 people in those boats. In my artwork this survival instinct was my topic. I demonstrated the Syrian immigrants, which is an important subject that is relevant to our today’s world. Syria is under civil war and Syrians are forced to leave their lands in their pasts and migrate to other countries searching for new hopes and survival under difficult circumstances. I displayed the chaos in Syria with the toy soldiers and the burning candles. The two footprints represents the Syrian immigrants. The left one that is quite bit behind from the other one indicates the immigrants that are trying to escape Syria but weren’t able to survive. The candles are their hopes in order to survive, but because of the war, they weren’t lucky enough to cross the country borders. So the candles burning, represents their hopes never coming true. The footprint on the right is a bit further from the left one’s positioning indicates that they have crossed Syria’s borders and finally reached a new country. The pictures on the footprint which sends out calming vibes, represents their hopes for better lives.
