This is self-portrait bust. I drew inspiration from the relationship I have with my Chinese heritage. As a second-generation Asian-American, I often associate feelings of displacement and distance from my cultural roots. This project is about that disconnection, but it's also about the inevitable tie that I have to being Chinese.
An Exploration of Southern California Plants
After a series of contour drawings and studies of various desert plants around the Pitzer College campus, I created three 24-30" sculptures based on three plants of choice, abstracting them in the process.
